Hundreds of families recently had a wonderful opportunity to experience the magic of the circus through Irish, with a special series of performances presented by Duffy’s Circus. The events were made possible through funding from Culture Ireland and a partnership between Conradh na Gaeilge and Glór na nGael, who promoted them among Irish speaking families.
The first performance took place in Maynooth, where more than 70 of our families attended the show. This was followed by a performance in Clontarf, which brought together over 200 people. For two hours, young and old alike enjoyed fantastic entertainment, a lively atmosphere and a wonderful family experience all through Irish!
The feedback we received from families was extremely positive. In addition to the excellent show itself, several parents mentioned that they met other Irish speaking families whom they had never encountered before. This highlights the important role events of this kind play in strengthening and expanding the Irish language community.
These events not only give children an opportunity to hear and use Irish in a fun, natural setting, but also create a space where families can get to know one another, build friendships and develop their Irish-language social networks. It is wonderful to see so many families coming together and enjoying a major entertainment event through their own language.
Further Circus through Irish performances will take place over the coming weeks and months in Tallaght, County Louth, Mullingar, Dún Laoghaire and Liffey Valley.
We would like to express our sincere thanks to Duffy’s Circus, which initially contacted Conradh na Gaeilge about the initiative, to Conradh na Gaeilge, who provided us with the tickets, and to Culture Ireland for their generous funding. This is an excellent example of what can be achieved when organisations work together to provide families with rich, memorable experiences and events entirely through Irish.
