Teanga Tí – Family Weekend at Coláiste na Rinne – Co. Waterford

We are delighted, as part of the Glór na nGael Home Language Scheme, to announce that we will have a beautiful gathering at Coláiste na Rinne the coming weekend, 23-25 February 2024.

There will be twelve families staying on-site or with host families. Among these families, we have participants coming from every corner of the country, including Co. Cork, Co. Kerry, Co. Carlow, Co. Kildare, Co. Wicklow, and Co. Dublin. Five families are also registered as day visitors from Co. Cork, Co. Kilkenny, and Co. Waterford.

The weekend will kick off on Friday with lively music and fun at the college, accompanied by a wine and cheese reception. We are told that the families will bring musical instruments and that we are set for a great night!

On Saturday morning, we have amazing activities planned, including an art workshop, an engineering workshop with Elaine (Glór na nGael Development Officer), and Rhymes and Fun with Cabríní (Development Company of Na Déise Manager).

No one will go hungry as everyone heads to the ‘Am Cócaireachta’ (Cooking Time) workshop, where we will be making brown bread, decorating cakes, and preparing pizza. Following that, everyone will visit the animals at the college. After dinner, we will have a Beach Walk with Stone Sculptures. Everyone will then come together for a Colour Run afterwards.

As a finale to the day’s events, we will have a local dance workshop and singing together with facilitators from the area.

On Sunday, we will have a traditional singing workshop, a Tae-Kwan Do session, and the little children will be building huts. The day will end with team games led by Tomás (Na Déise Language Planning Officer), Elaine (Glór na nGael Development Officer), and Bróna (Dún Garbhán Language Planning Officer).

We will be connecting with schools in the area, such as the local secondary school, St. Nicholas’ Secondary School, which will join us to play music, and we are really looking forward to meeting and listening to them. We will also be linking with our ‘líonra scoile’ (school network) from Garbhán School, who will join us on Saturday morning to participate in the morning activities.

We extend our thanks to Coláiste na Rinne for their considerable assistance and for providing us with top-quality ‘ceannairí’ (leaders).

We also thank the Comhlacht Forbartha na nDéise for their excellent support in terms of ideas and facilitating some of the workshops. We would like to express our gratitude to Dún Garbháin le Gaeilge for their help on-site and for offering various workshops as well.
