Teanga Tí continues to achieve

As we approach the half way mark of 2025, Glór na nGael is working away organising events and supporting Irish speaking families. The Teanga Tí department of the organisation has organised 89 events and support 40networks of Irish speaking families throughout Ireland.

In addition to those 40 networks, Glór na nGael is working with 10 GAA clubs to develop Irish speaking family networks in their communities. We have also secured funding to develop Irish speaking family networks in Irish language service towns and official Líonraí Gaeilge.

A weekend of events in the Waterford Gaeltacht and Lá Spraoi na Gaeilge in Nass in May were the two highlights of this year’s work. One parent commented: “Labhraimíd Gaeilge i gcónaí sa bhaile. Is é seo an t-aon deis chun Gaeilge a labhairt le daoine eile. Tá sé tábhachtach go gcloiseann na páisti go bhfuil Gaeilge ag daoine eile seachas mom agus dad! Bheadh deis mar seo gach mí iontach!”

We have published 12 newsletters on a fortnightly basis and developed a series of posters with terminology that will be useful for parents.

We awarded 20 scholarships to parents so that they could attend Gaeltacht courses in order to improve their own command of the language.

Between now and the end of the year, we will organise the week long Gaeltacht holiday in Corca Dhuibhne and Seomra na dTeaghlach at the oireachtas. Before long we will be planning events for the Christmas period.

Glór na nGael is grateful to Foras na Gaeilge, COGG and the Department of Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht.
