Glór na nGael is to launch support for Irish speaking families who are sheltering Ukrainians who have escaped the war.
Families throughout Ireland are offering shelter to those who have escaped the war in Ukraine. By opening their homes and hearts, they are helping to ease the suffering being caused by the humanitarian crisis in Eastern Europe.
Glór na nGael will establish a Whatsapp group for Irish speaking families with whom Ukrainians are staying. Its aim is to provide a supportive space in which the families can discuss common challenges, share information and develop good practice together.
An on-line discussion forum will also be established.
Glór na nGael will also provide opportunities for Ukrainian families to hear the Irish language in a fun and entertaining environment.
The families will be invited to take part in an online song and poetry session. It will give the Ukrainians an opportunity to get a flavour of the Irish language and for them to share songs from Ukraine with their hosts.
It is hoped that the experience will help the Ukrainians settle in Ireland.
