Irish families descend on Corca Dhuibhne

Irish speaking families descended on Kerry’s Corca Dhuibhne Gaeltacht from the 9th of August for the annual Saoire Ghaeltachta.

Coming from all corners of Ireland, the 49 families spent a week together enjoying a programme of fun, music, craic and adventure organised by the Teanga Tí team from Glór na nGael.

Thirty four events catering for all ages were organised as part of the week, including seaside events, fun on the beach, art workshops, guided walks, football skills on the beach, treasure hunt, a quiz and more.

This is an annual event that occurs in the second week of August and based in Coláiste Íde outside Daingean in the Kerry Gaeltacht.

Many of the families return each year. The children describe the week as the highlight of their year. They get to know one another, form friendships and look forward to seeing each other again.

And, of course, social media helps them stay in touch throughout the year.

This is an Irish language only event and speaking English is not allowed at the events.

Glór na nGael organises the Saoire Ghaeltachta as part of the Teanga Tí scheme.
