Informational Meeting – Líonra Gaeilge

An informational meeting is being organised by Glór na nGael on the ‘Líonra Gaeilge’ status that is being presented to communities that seek to this official status and who fulfill the necessary criteria.

The meeting will be held in  Áras Chrónáin, Cluain Dolcáin (Clondalkin), Baile Átha Cliath,  on Tuesday, 30 July 2019, from 3.00pm to 5.00pm.

Ceannasaí Ghlór na nGael, Lorcán Mac Gabhann says this meeting is aimed at all groups that wish to attain this status to prepare and implement a Plean Teanga (Language Plan) in a community suitable as a Líonra Gaeilge.

“We expect to hear an announcement soon inviting other towns and communities to apply for this national status.” says Mac Gabhann, “It would worthwhile for community groups who are interested in or considering this status to attend this meeting.”

At the moment five communities are actively working through this process at the end of which they hope to receive the statutory status as a Líonra Gaeilge, they are Cluan Dolcáin (Clondalkin), Inis (Ennis), Baile Locha Riach (Loughrea), Carn Tóchair (Carntogher) and Iarthar Bhéal Feirste (West Belfast).

As part of the meeting committee members from two of these communities will speak of their experience with the process and a representative from Foras na Gaeilge will explain the Líonra Gaeilge status.

A program for the meeting will be published on www.glornangael.ie and a copy will be sent to any group that expresses an interest and contacts eoghan@glornangael.ie
