Father Tadhg Furlong, former Director of Glór na nGael, has passed away

A motion of sympathy was passed today at a meeting of the Board of Directors of Glór na nGael for the family and friends of Father Tadhg Furlong, who died on 27 November 2023. Father Tadhg served as a parish priest in Cappawhite, County Tipperary, at the time of his death.

Father Furlong spent more than 10 years as Director on the Board of Glór na nGael.

“He was a kind and levelheaded man. He was a pillar of support on the Board during a challenging period for Glór na nGael, when it was appointed as national lead organisation in 2014,” said Pat Carey, the Chairperson of the organisation.

“Father Furlong had a great interest in the Irish language and always showed his support for projects that would increase the number of people speaking it. As the CEO of Glór na nGael, his advice and support could always be relied upon whenever it was needed,” said Lorcán Mac Gabhann, the CEO of Glór.

As Irish speakers and as a Gaelic community, we are poorer without Father Furlong.
