Home Language in School Communities

The Home Language scheme in school communities encourages families to speak more Irish at home and to do so more often.

Although schools are used as a way to establish and facilitate the network of Irish-speaking families, the networks operate outside the school’s management structure, outside the school’s gates and outside the school’s official times.

A minimum of five families is required to participate in the scheme. It is possible that parents are fluent in Irish or moderate Irish and want to improve their ability or they speak little Irish but want to achieve a higher standard.

There is a place for them all in this scheme.

If anyone is interested in taking part in Home Language, they can contact Glór na nGael.
