Comórtas Peile na Gaeltachta 2026

It was a fantastic weekend at CLG Chill Chartha as they hosted Comórtas Peile na Gaeltachta. CLG Chill Chartha has been registered with Fondúireacht Sheosaimh Mhic Dhonncha since 2020, and this was the second time they have hosted Comórtas Peile na Gaeltachta, having previously hosted it in 2004. Irish is the club’s primary language, and they have been working tirelessly for some time in preparation for the competition. A total of 19 matches were played between 26 teams over the weekend, and the tournament was a great success. CLG Chill Chartha and the wider community received high praise for organising such an excellent event.

Grád Sóisear na bhFear

Gaeil Fhánada CLG

Gaeil Fhánada CLG has been registered with us since 2020. They achieved a bronze award in 2022 and went on to secure a silver award in 2024. Each year, they make use of the grants available through Fondúireacht Sheosaimh Mhic Dhonncha to organise a variety of events within the club. Over the years, with support from FSMD, they have organised beach walks, storytelling and poetry sessions, and significantly enhanced the visibility of Irish around the clubhouse. There is no doubt that they have made a tremendous effort to promote and encourage the regular use of Irish within the club.

Grád Sóisear na mBan

CLG Chill Chartha

It was wonderful to see the host club win the Grád Sóisear na mBan competition. CLG Chill Chartha has made significant progress in promoting Irish since beginning its journey with Fondúireacht Sheosaimh Mhic Dhonncha in 2020. They have consistently availed of Fondúireacht Sheosaimh Mhic Dhonncha grants over the years to organise Irish language classes, Pop-Up Gaeltachtaí, and training programmes for underage managers. Congratulations to them on their victory and on successfully hosting the competition.

Grád Idirmheánach na mBan

Naomh Columba CLG

They also erected new signage with the support of FSMD grants while hosting some of the matches in partnership with CLG Chill Chartha over the weekend. They achieved the Fondúireacht silver award in 2022.

Grád Sinsear na mBan

An Tearmann CLG

An Tearmann CLG won the Grád Sinsear na mBan competition this year. They registered with us in 2019 and have worked to provide Irish language classes and conversation circles for club members. They recorded a narrow victory over Baile Chláir na Gaillimhe in the final.
