Two teams from Glór na nGael began a tour of the country today, Monday 15 January, to judge Irish language community groups and committees and to select the winners of ‘Comórtas Náisiúnta Ghlór na nGael 2023’ the prestigious national Glór na nGael competition.
37 groups are competing for prizes in categories such as Youth, Education, The Family, Mental and Physical Health, The State and Business, Events and Speaking Opportunities and The Gaeltacht. There is also a range of special recognition prizes to be won.
From Ghaoth Dobhair to the Rinn and from Tallaght to Inis Meáin, the two adjudicating teams will spend the next two weeks on the road in search of the Irish language committees and groups that stand out in the different categories. All the prizes, and of course the overall main prize + the Glór na nGael trophy, will be presented at a special event which will take place in Monaghan town at the beginning of April.
The Glór na nGael competition was established in 1961 as a language development tool for community groups.
