During a special edition of the Iris Aniar program on RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta, that aired on the 24th February 2022, Caitríona Nic Seoin, Development Manager, and Seán Ó Cuirrín, Development Officer with Glór na nGael, announced the results of Glór na nGael’s national competition 2021. A prize fund of almost €80,000 was announced, shared among Irish language community groups throughout Ireland.
The following are the three committees who finished with the highest points in the competition, and are therefore in the running for a cheque for €15,000 and the Glór na nGael trophy: Coiste Forbartha Charn Tóchair, Derry, Ionad Naomh Pádraig, Dobhar, County Donegal and Comharchumann Mhic Dara, An Cheathrú Rua, County Galway.
The winner will be announced at Glór na nGael’s national awards ceremony at the end of March.
The Glór na nGael competition, which celebrated 60 years last year, acknowledges the trojan work done by Irish language community groups throughout the year. The competition adjudicators recognised, particularly in the past two years, the strength and resilience of these groups as they provide necessary services to Gaeltacht and Irish language communities, despite the ongoing challenges faced by them.
Caitríona Nic Seoin extended thanks to Foras na Gaeilge, An Roinn Turasóireachta, Cultúir, Ealaíon, Gaeltachta, Spóirt agus Meán who sponsor the main prize, along with Údarás na Gaeltachta and all the sponsors of the special awards.
