Clár Téarnaimh COVID – A £1.4m grant scheme now open

Glór na nGael is delighted to announce a £ 1.4m grant scheme for groups working to promote the Irish language in the North.

The scheme is open from 7 January 2022, and the closing date for applications is 28 January 2022. An information booklet about the scheme is available here and you can make an application at this link

‘The purpose of this fund is to reduce or eliminate operating deficits that occurred during the 2021/22 financial year, as a result of the Covid pandemic. Glór na nGael is delighted to be distributing funding to community groups in the Irish language sector who are suffering financially as a result of the pandemic.

Glór na nGael, and the Irish language sector as a whole, recognizes the pioneering work of Irish language community groups since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic. Glór na nGael hopes that this scheme will assist these Irish language community groups in rebuilding for the future with the aim of returning to a full program of services and activities.

The funding of this fund has been provided by Executive and Community Minister Deirdre Hargey MLA to support organisations that were negatively affected by the pandemic in the financial year from 1 April 2021 to 31 March 2022.

Caitríona Nic Seoin, Community Development Manager, commented ‘We hope this fund will help the voluntary Irish language sector, who, despite all the challenges of the pandemic, have continued to serve their respective communities in every way they can.  This scheme should help with the inevitable financial challenges the pandemic has brought over the past year.”
