Glór na nGael is a national competition where the development of the Irish language and culture are it's central aims. This is done through the means of a national community competition. There is a prize fund of in excess of €160,000. Another aim of the competition is to give recognition to the groups that best develop the Irish language and culture during the year. The competition is run between January and December of each year. Adjudication is carried out during November.
The National Competition is divided in two parts: one section deals with committees who have the benefit of full time workers and employees; the other deals with committees working on a wholly voluntary basis.
