As Glór na nGael na nGael announces the awards for 2007 this Friday, the national competition is celebrating added value to its prize fund.
Prizes to the value of €141,950 will be announced giving recognition to the great work being conducted by groups at home and abroad to promote the Irish language.
The Department of Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs has given additional funding to the competition, enabling Glór na nGael to increase the value of the main prizes.
An extra €10,000 will be given to the over-all winner, bringing the value of that prize to
€50,000. As well as that, €12,500 and €7,500 will be awarded to the second and third places nationally.
Expressing his thanks to the Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs, Éamon Ó Cuív, Glór na nGael’s director, Lorcán Mac Gabhann, said: “It is a source of great satisfaction to Glór na nGael to be able to add to the prize fund yet again.
“We get strong support from the Department that adds significantly to the funding we get from our other main funder, Foras na Gaeilge.
“Just as the Glór na nGael prize fund gives recognition to the work of the committee, this funding is an acknowledgement of the important work that the Glór na nGael tram does.
“I would like to express my thanks to the Minister for the confidence he has shown in our work.”
