Globa Gaeilge wins Government support

Press release

Support for Glór na nGael prize fund

The Minister Foreign Affairs, Dermot Ahern, has granted funding of €38,500 to Glór na nGael for its Global Gaeilge project.

The funding will be used to encourage Irish speakers abroad and awaken international interest in the language and the Gaelic culture.

Expressing his thanks to Minister Ahern, Glór na nGael’s director, Lorcán Mac Gabhann, said: “This funding will be of great assistance to Glór na nGael as we further develop Global Gaeilge.

“An international competition to encourage groups overseas, Global Gaeilge was established in 2005 and gives recognition to the good work that is being done in many countries to develop the Irish language.

“It extends the hands of friendship to Irish people abroad and confirms their importance in the Irish speaking community. The prize celebrates the language on the global stage.

“This grant from the Department of Foreign Affairs builds on the funding we already receive from Foras na Gaeilge and the support given to Global Gaeilge by Áras Mháirtín Uí Chadhain, Gael Linn, Oideas Gael and Oidhreacht Chorca Dhuibhne.
