Student conference on Best Practice hosted by Glór na nGael

Press Release

Students to head for Dublin

Students from Irish language societies in colleges across Ireland will be heading for Dublin this weekend to attend a conference on good-practice.

With support from the Department of Education and Science, Glór na nGael and Conradh na Gaeilge are organising a day of training so that the students will be able to enhance their influence on college life.

The conference is part of Comórtas na gCumann Gaelach sna Coláistí Tríú Leibhéal

Organised by Glór na nGael.

For its part, Conradh na Gaeilge organises an annual training day for Irish language societies in third level education institutions. The two organisations have taken the opportunity to combine their efforts to maximise the results of the training event.

Central to the event, Joyce Gibson, a Presbyterian from County Down, will talk to the students about reconciliation and how Irish speakers can make the language more attractive to Protestants.

Among the other subjects that will be discussed will be organising an Irish language society, the Irish language in the students’ union and the college, rights and services, events and current campaigns.

Comórtas na gCumann Gaelach sna Coláistí Tríú Leibhéal was started in 2006

The prize is awarded to the student society that can show it made the greatest effort to promote the Irish language in college life.

The Cumann Gaelach in UCD won the first prize for 2007.
